The BTS Skytrain is barely 17 years old but is so woven into the fabric of Bangkok that it feels like it’s always been there, at least to my tourist eyes. Megastructures get a bad rap in US planning circles but when they work (usually overseas) they’re awesome to see. Kudos to Bangkok for building something far cheaper than an underground metro that didn’t destroy the street life underneath it.
